Petite Fashion Challenge# 13 Professional Outfit for Under $100

Sorry for late entry. I went on a last minute trip out of town and didn't get a chance to put an outfit together before the trip.

This month's Petite Fashion Challenge is hosted by beautiful Annie of Really Petite.

The Challenge: Stylish under $100: Put together a professional outfit (excluding shoes and accessories) for under $100. Bonus points if you can put together a completed outfit including shoes and accessories for under $100.

I had a great time with my first Petite Fashion Challenge and was excited try my hand on another one. For this challenge I really want to keep everything under $100. Suits are not required at my work place unless we are meeting with the bigwigs.   I wanted to add some color to my work wardrobe and found this Forever21 Vibrant Peplum Blazer last week. The color is a brighter green than it appears on the photo. I'll be doing a review on this blazer in another post.

Breakdown of the cost of my outfit:

Banana Republic Outlet Sheath OP : $25 - Rounded up since I can't remember the actual price.
Ann Taylor Perfect Patent Pump in Navy 5.5: $35.93
Nordstrom Rack Necklace: $8.79
Total: $ 99.52

Thank you, Annie for hosting this month's challenge! Make sure you check out the other petite ladies outfits on Annie's blog. I can't wait to see what the other ladies come up with.

Ann Taylor's Fitting Room Reviews

*Sale ended*

Hi ladies, I hope you all had a great weekend. I just wanted to share a few reviews on Ann Taylor items. I took these photos with my iPhone so sorry for the bad quality.

The first thing I did when I walked into the store was head straight to the dress section to see what kind of dresses were available. My husband says my new obsession is dresses and I think he may be right. I picked up this dress because I loved the polka dots design. The dress is 96% polyester, 4% spandex and being machine washable is a plus since I hate spending money on dry clean. The material is thick and conforms to your torso and hips.

I liked the graphic design on this dress but it didn't look so good on me once I got it off the hanger and tried it on. I must say it did look really good on the model online though =). The dress is 96% rayon, 4% spandex, dry clean. It  looked so boxy on me. Looking at the dress online I noticed that the graphic dress on the model seemed to be centered while the dress I wore was slightly off center.

Out of all the dress I tried this one is my favorite. I loved the color block design with the bright color accent and the fit seemed good. The length is a little long but I don't mind it so much. The dress is 85% polyester 15% spandex, dry clean. But at $158 it's pricey and dry clean only too =*(. Why why must you be dry clean! I'm adding this dress to my "I want list" (or is it my "I need list" hehe) so I hope there will be a good sale in the near future.

I always like finding a fun dress for work and this dress fit the bill. The dress is 33% rayon 62% polyester 5% spandex, dry clean. Once again the dreadful dry clean.

I love the bright color of this blouse when I first saw the blouse on Kelly. The blouse is 93% silk, 7% spandex, dry clean. I love that I can roll up the sleeves.

The skirt 53% cotton, 41% polyester, 6% elastane is slightly too big on me. I may need to size down for a better fit.

The sleeves unrolled is a bit long for me.

This how the blouse looked tucked into the skirt

See Kelly's  and Cher's reviews on this blouse
See how Tara styled this blouse.

I like the color of shell; 70% rayon, 30% lyocell hand wash on the hanger. I'm not too sure if the color matches my skin tone. The material is thin and is best worn with a nude bra.

Circles, Dots or Both

Happy Friday Everyone

Do you see circles, dots or both?

Wearing: Macy's  Wishes, Wishes, Wishes Dress -XS old, Target Tight -S, Ann Taylor Perfect Pump -5.5, 1928 Necklace

I am trying to limit my spending this year by making use of the items that are already in my wardrobe and will only buy the items that I need or really really love. =) So far I think I've been good though my husband may disagree about that hehe.

I purchased this dress many springs ago when I wanted to add some clothes that had some fun and decorative prints to my dull wardrobe. When I first saw the print I thought it was circles but now that I'm looking at it again it seems that print can be considered as a combination of circles and large dots?

What do you see! I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Wearing: Charlotte Russe Cardigan - XS, Loft Shell - XS, , Skirt Banana Republic Skirt OP - New York and Company Flower Belt - S/M, Target Tight-S, Aldo Pump - 6, Necklace - gift from a friend

In the spirit of Valentine's Day I wore pink, red and lace.  My husband and I rarely celebrate Valentine's Day. No gifts, chocolates, flowers or diamonds. We believe that you should show your loved one how much you loved them everyday. For those who celebrate Valentine, I hope you have a wonderful day filled with love, tenderness and sweetness.

Navy, Polka Dot and Mustard

I couldn't wait to wear the blouse I got from the Jason Wu's collection for Target so before I went to bed last night I started thinking of what items to pair with the blouse. When I first bought the blouse my initial thought was to pair the blouse with a pencil skirt. However, I wanted something that was softer than a structured pencil skirt.

Deep in thought I suddenly remembered my conversation with my friend, Ying of My Dressy Ways, that I had the same Forever 21 lace and mustard pleated dress she had worn in her blog. Then a little light went off in my head  "why not pair the navy blouse with the mustard dress."

Wearing: Jason Wu for Target Blouse with Tie in Navy Dots - XS, Forever 21 Lace and mustard pleated dress worn as a skirt -S, New York and Company Black Belt -S/M, Ann Taylor Navy Perfect Pump Patent -5.5

The blouse is long and boxy (see here for review on the blouse) so I folded it and tucked the extra material under the wide belt. The belt had a stretching band which helped hold the extra material in place.

Thanks to Jean and Elle's tweets I was able to score these Ann Taylor Navy Perfect Pumps for $35. What a deal!

Hope everyone is having a good week. Just one more day and the weekend will be here =).

The Girly Me

A huge thanks to Sydney of PetiteLittleGirl for finding this beautiful Ann Taylor sweater for me. See Sydney's blog to see how she styled this sweater.

Wearing:
Blouse:
 Ann Taylor old XSP
Sweater: Ann Taylor Snowpearl Crew Neck SP
Skirt:  Charlotte Russe Dress worn as a skirt old S
Shoe: BCBG Genernation bootie -6

If you have been following my blog you can probably guess by now that I love all things girly. If this is your first time reading then let me tell you that I love clothes with lace, ruffles, or anything that you can associate with being a girly girl

But what if I told you that, had you met me 10 years ago, you would not have recognized me. There are many people who knew me 10 years ago that would probably have to do a double take if they passed me on the street today.

10 years ago I was the type of girl who was considered "just one of the guys." I was somewhat of a tomboy. I loved anime and anything that involved martial arts. My idols were Donnie Yen and Jet Li. My idea of something casual to wear out was a t-shirt and windbreaker pants(*gasp* I know I know...pretty horrible, right?). And to top it all off I usually had my hair tied up in a pony tail or braided. Fashion was the farthest thing from my mind. Back then I couldn't have named one famous fashion designer even if my life depended on it. But I could tell you all the details about the Fushigi Yugi anime =).

*Me about 10 yrs ago added per request by SPG*

Even so, I was wasn't your typical tomboy. There was a part of me that was a romantic dreamer who read romantic novel, who loved things that were cute and girly, and would even put on a pretty dress and wear heels every once in a while. Still, that was something that only happened on rare occasions. People rarely saw that side of me.

It wasn't until I met and married my husband that I started to embrace the girly side of me. I became interested in makeup, paid more attention to what I wore, and started to read up about the fashion world. Finding the petite community two years ago has provided me with some in depth perspective on the fashion world. I feel that I still have a long way to go and I am still searching for my style since I was such a late bloomer but I feel I've come a long way.

"False advertisement! What happen to the girl I married who wasn't into makeup and fashion" my husband said to me as he saw me become more comfortable with myself. He was joking of course. He says he has always thought I was always beautiful and now I'm only proving that he was right. I'm still that girl who loves anime and martial arts. And my idols are still Donnie Yen and Jet Li. I am just finally coming out of my shell and giving the woman hidden inside a chance to shine.

Ladies, how much have you changed over the years?

Jason Wu for Target Reviews

I usually try to avoid the madness of a collaboration launch but I love Jason Wu's designs and couldn't resist the Jason Wu collection for Target. The good thing about living in a big city is that there are several Targets. I wanted to avoid the crowd at the Target in Mission Valley so I checked the Target for Style Facebook page on Friday to see which other Target stores in San Diego would have the collection. The Target on College Avenue in Lemon Grove was the closest one to me so I decided to head there, though I was unsure of what to expect.

I arrived at 7:15 am and, to my surprise, there was no one there. The parking lot was empty except for a few cars that belonged to the employees who worked at the shopping center.  I walked to Starbucks to grab a drink and coffee cake and went back to my car to wait. About 15 minutes before the store was scheduled to open I saw a guy walk up to the front of the store with a shopping cart. 5 mintues later, I saw lady walking to the front and so I decided to join them. As soon as I joined them a few other ladies started showing up. We started talking and everyone who showed up was there for the Jason Wu Collection. The guy informed us that he checked online and it said that this Target had only a limited selection of Jason Wu Collection. *Note to self * next time I should check the store availability online before heading to the store*

Vest and Scarf Tie

I hope everyone's week is going well.  I apologize for my lack of posts. I am still recovering from the illness I caught this past weekend.

Wearing:
Blouse:
Loft -OP
Vest:Express - OP
Skirt: Express -OP
Tight: Target
Scarf : Unknown brand bought from a shop in San Francisco Chinatown
Shoe: BCBG Genernation bootie -6

Sorry for the bad quality of the photos. I took these pictures last week and since I didn't have anyone to help me out I decided familiarize myself with the self timer on my camera. I didn't have a tripod so I had to place my camera on the seat of a chair and two reams of paper. The things we do just to take photos. =) I would like to eventually get a DSLR with a tripod and remote but for now I have to find creative ways to take my own photo when my husband is not around.

For work attire, I love the look of a vest paired with a blouse and a pencil skirt so when I found the vest and matching skirt at Express two years ago I was ecstatic.  The vest was a little too long on me so I shorten the strap of the vest. To add interest to the outfit I wore a floral scarf as a tie. I was lacking in my tieing a tie skills so I asked my husband to tie the scarf for me.

Ladies what is your opinions about vests and how would you wear the vest?
